(Service Corp of Retired Executives)

SCORE is a resource partner with the SBA (Small Business Association) and is a national organization dedicated to providing free counseling to small businesses. SCORE provides free and confidential business advice and mentoring tailored to meet the needs of your small business and your personal objectives.

SCORE counselors are primarily retired executives with experience and expertise in many different areas of business and types of businesses, although many counselors are still in business.  Mentors are experts in finance, marketing, management, patents, web based businesses and business plan preparation.

Appointments are scheduled in one hour blocks, although longer sessions are available.  There is no limit to the number of appointments and clients are encouraged to develop mentoring relationships with SCORE counselors.

SCORE has a counselor, John Berkaw, who provides consulting services through the Brighton Chamber of Commerce.  Appointments may be made by calling the Brighton Chamber of Commerce at (810) 227-5086.  His expertise is primarily in financial areas as he was a corporate banker with a large regional bank and later started his own venture capital and investment banking companies.  He can also refer clients to other counselors with other expertise.  The principal SCORE office in this region is in Ann Arbor and they have over 30 counselors with a variety of skills.  Appointments to the Ann Arbor Score office can be made by calling that office, which is hosted by Cleary University, at (734) 332-4477.
